F(L)AG Day Planning Meeting - Friday at 8:30. Red Dot - ??

OK Folks, here we go!

I'm thinking about having the first planning meeting for gay Flag Day this Friday night at 8:30 pm at the Red Dot?

Whaddaya think?

The purpose will be hammer out what we want to do for a gay presence at Flag Day and then put together a list of tasks. I have no idea. Maybe there already is a gay something happening for Flag Day....a float in the parade?

We have a coordinator, a full time Hudson resident, and we're going to use this blog as a central point of information.

If you're interested, please come. We'll probably be in the side area, near the garden door. Look for the table of gay men. You'll know.

This should be fun. EMAIL ME: Rich@GayHudson.com let me know you're coming.

In the Frank Capra MOVIE VERSION of this, during this first meeting, the comments will be:
  • "I have a pick up truck that we can use!"
  • "I know of some businesses that will definitely sponsor us!"
  • "I can get us a plug in the Register-Star!"
  • "Fred still has those old Vaudeville costumes in the basement, we can use THOSE!!"
Then, right after this meeting, in the movie, there's a musical montage, of gay men and maybe some lesbians, scurrying around Hudson, working...

Shots of:
  • Gay men handing out flyers on Warren Street, old ladies nodding in agreement.
  • A drag queen getting her musty dress out of the closet.
  • A leather queen trying to squeeze into his old pair of chaps -- "Honey, did you wash my leather chaps? I think they've shrunk!" Cut to partner rolling his eyes...
Or, no one will show up on Friday and I'll get drunk by myself...like any typical Friday....

Honestly, folks, I don't know what I'm doing....I've never even BEEN to a Flag Day in Hudson. There might already be someone doing a gay something for Flag Day....

All I know is that Flag Day is a big wa-hoo of an event here in Hudson, and no matter how much of a gay presence there is, I want MORE!

And I'm willing to do whatever work I can to make it happen.

I know, I should be careful what I ask for, right?

I will be there with bells on baby... We may meet some resistance at first there are still a lot of red necks / homophob's in Hudson. But we can not back down if they did at Stonewall we might still be running around in back alleys and hiding in the dark corners of bars hoping to catch someones eye as they pass by.

Well, Gay Pride or not, I might still be in the back alleys trying to catch a cute boy's eyes.....if you're getting a blow job by a guy in a back alley with a pink wig on, that's me...

Since Ethel and I will be missing tonight's planning committee meeting (we're booked to dance on the bar at the newly remodeled Stonewall Bar on Christopher Street) I wanted to post my Two Cents.

What about if FlAG Day was the day AFTER Flag Day... more informal, an unplanned parade, maybe just some cars honking their horns around town. I mean, this is the first year for FlAG Day and all. There are way too many freaks in Columbia County, and they ALL show up for Flag Day, and sometimes confrontation isn't the best way to initiate something new -- something we want to be fun and permanent.

ATAIHTSAT!
