DIAMOND OPERA THEATER PRESENTS HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Hudson’s own opera company, Diamond Opera Theater, in association with Hudson Opera House, will present Holiday music, both classical and modern, on Saturday, December 10, at 5:00p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal. Artistic Director Mary Deyerle Hack has assembled an all-star cast of singers and instrumentalists to celebrate the season in style.

Mary, a mezzo-soprano, will be joined by two sopranos, April Fisher and Allison Sniffin, for Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols in its original setting with harp accompaniment, followed by solos, duets and trios featuring different combinations of singers and instruments. Cynthia Powell, who has been featured in several of Diamond Opera’s Art of Song programs at Hudson Opera House, is musical director and pianist for the group. In Manhattan, Cynthia is conductor of both the Stonewall Chorale and Melodia Women’s Choir.

The harpist will be Rita Costanzi. Soprano April Fisher will perform in pieces by composers from Bach to Max Reger. Triple-threat musician Allison Sniffin (a composer and instrumentalist as well as a singer) has also performed with Diamond Opera and may play the viola or piano with some of the songs. The program will end with a Columbia County-specific carol, never heard before!

The concert is a benefit for Diamond Opera Theater. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and Under, payable at the door. A reception to meet the artists will follow in the Parish Hall.

Everyone's complaining about the new facebook changes.

You know what? I'm on facebook constantly.....and I don't care.

I'm a promoter. I promote events, and facebook makes it easier to promote events.

Facebook makes it easy to display pictures, tag people in photos, and that's what facebook is all about.

It's a social networking site.....and I try to get people together. For me, facebook works.

BUT -

The goal of my facebook usage is to get people OUT of the house, and doing things, with other people. Do things with real, in-person people.

Why sit around and watch TV? Most of the shows are stupid and boring, anyway.

There's something out there called Real Life - your real life - not someone else's. You don't have to watch someone else's "reality life" on TV. You could actually just live in your own reality.

There's a concept, huh?

So....having said all this - here's a list of all the events I want you to attend. :)

Folks of Hudson, in every Mayoral election year, we talk about the Waterfront. We talk about how the Waterfront development is going to CHANGE the city.

Most of the time, when I walk my dog there, I see about twelve people sitting in their cars looking at the water. I don't think they even leave their cars.

Go on the Fall Foliage Cruise. It's going to be beautiful. MOD is doing food for us. There will be a cash bar on the boat.

It's happening the same time as the Chili Festival, which is also on the Hudson Waterfront.

Don't you want to be on a boat, filled with people who just ate a bowl of chili?

It's going to be a blast!

Then, on Sunday, the following day, Oct. 9th, my dear, sweet loveable friend, Mr. Tom Judson and I are doing MATCH GAME at MOD Cafe's Big Gay Brunch. 11am - 2pm.

I have no idea what to expect, it's the first time we're doing this. I did go out and buy "The Best of Match Game" DVD, so we will have actual Match Game questions. Each table will be able to guess the 'correct' answer.

The best part about this gig, is that it's really not much of a stretch for me. I can just be myself.

THEN - for Halloween, Musty and I are going to be at Club Helsinki - Sat. Oct. 29th. 10pm-2am. $15/door. "Burn in Hell....sinki"

Like it? The name was Musty's idea.

There's going to be a big Halloween costume contest, with several hundred dollars given away in prizes, and about a third of the door to charity.

It's really going to be off-the-hook. More details to follow. Musty and I are doing a photo and video shoot next week. Just wait.

That's pretty much it for October. In between all of this, I'm also the President of the gay bowling league in Schenectady - Capital Area Pride Bowlers. Sundays at 6pm at Sportsmans bowling alley in Schenectady. Just show up and we'll put you in as a substitute or a pacer. It's no big whoop - just bowl and have a couple of beers!

What's my point in all this?

Forget about facebook, and all their changes. Who needs TV? Get out of the house, and create your own reality show.

Life is short.

I know, I should be a big proponent of gay marriage, considering I help organize a gay pride parade, but really, I'm like, 'whatever'.

It's sort of like the 'gays in the military' issue.

Yes, we should have equality in the military, but you're not going to find me enlisting.

In theory, people get married for love. That's very romantic.

But then, once you sign the papers, it's really this big exchange of property and money, health and tax benefits....

Call it what it is, folks.

Anyway...

The part that I do like, in this new gay marriage state that we live in, is the PARTY potential!

If you focus on the great parties that can happen!!! Now, you have my attention!

I tried to find information on-line about proper facebook etiquette. It's a big issue. People don't know what to do sometimes.

I found a lot of nonsense - but, then I went straight to the source, Ms. Emily Post!

That sums it up. Most of my facebook etiquette issues with "facebook friends" are when someone posts, links, un-friends, etc. and you think...

"Why would someone say/do something like that?"

The answer is probably because they are not considering the feelings of others.

The Divine Sister at Stageworks

I know what you're thinking....

'Trixie, when are you going to perform for us again? We are waiting anxiously!'

Yeah, right.

Well, it's going to be a while, since the fuzz closed down my BINGO parlor, and well, I really don't like performing - which is odd for a drag queen, but true.

But, there are drag queens that actually like and want to perform - and they do it here in Hudson - right under our eyes, we would never even know!

Charles Busch, the writer of "The Divine Sister" is known for some of this other plays, such as "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" and "Psycho Beach Party". His plays are comedies, usually with at least one cross-dresser, and sometimes with more meaning - if you're willing to read into it. - like one character in "The Divine Sister", Agnes, who sees the image of Saint Clair in the urine stains of a pair of panties.

Urine stains on panties? In our wholesome city of Hudson?

The play is about....oh, I don't know....nuns, religion, lost love, family, atheism, belief in God, cocktail dresses, cabaret performers, murder....

It's over-the-top, camp fun. It's a spoof on "Agnes of God", "The Sound of Music", "The Bells of St. Mary's", and all those other great nun-flicks.

I saw the show with a friend, then we walked to Mod Cafe and had dinner. Fabulous!

This is what we want our future to be Hudson, no?

"The Divine Sister" is fun evening entertainment, a show risqué enough, with talented performers, that you can bring your NYC guests.

Is Hudson the Next Provincetown?

I went to Provincetown, Massachusetts during Bear Week and I'm going back again soon.

I like to think of the Bears as "my people".

These are 'Bears'

I'm not really into Bears, they're not really into me, but we bowl together and they eat my cookies, so, it works.

I love the Bears' attitude! They give a big hairy 'fuck you', to the gay Chelsea-boy look that has plagued the gay community for years. Like a rash, 'Chelsea-boys' show up all over - beaches, cruise ships, circuit parties.

Cute, but for the most part, vacuous.

Chelsea-boys will rarely venture past 72nd Street, (and only then for a good trick) and they have no concept of anything north of Westchester.

If we wanted Chelsea-boys, we would have stayed in Manhattan, and not pay the $100+ roundtrip train fare on Amtrak to come upstate.

Anyway, where was I?

Bear Week in Provincetown - or "P-Town".

True Story. I'm renting a bicycle on the MONDAY of Bear week, at one of the little bike rental places- and the guy told me that he was probably sold out.

He found one, but it was not easy.

He has about 600 bicycles, that he rents out for $22/day - $5/day more if you want a basket in front.

Mine cost $27/day - of course I had to have a basket in front. please....

OK Hudson - let's do the math - one little bike store in a little town on Cape Cod.

600 bicycles at $22/day = $13,200/day.

This little bike shop was taking in OVER $10,000/day!!!

ON A MONDAY! ON BEAR WEEK!

(What's the over-head? Buying the bicycles? A little store-front? Seasonal employees? Look at the numbers - even if it's only a three or four month business.)

I checked out his computer screen - he has three cute guys working out front scanning in the bicycles and a really big, hot and sexy.....database!

I told him that if he ever needed any help with his software package - to call me... ;)

I asked, 'what do the negative numbers mean?'

'Oh, those are my over-reserved bikes.'

He has about 600 bicycles and some are over-booked. O.M.G.

Here we are, sitting in Hudson, with some saying - "How can we make the cement plant happy?"

Forget the cement plant, people!!

Bring in the restaurants, the drag shows, and the bicycle shops!! Let's make some money already!

What are we waiting for?

P-Town is booming! The streets are closed to cars and lined with visitors shopping, eating, seeing shows, buying things they really don't need (and we have a lot of stuff to sell in this town...)

Granted, you may argue that maybe P-town is a little much, and we don't want to go that far.

Fine.

BUT - a little wouldn't hurt.

For instance, Hedda Lettuce is in a show this week at Stageworks, CLICK here for ticket information. GO SEE IT!

This weekend, there's a big art show, New Art Dealers Alliance, NADA, at the Basilica, and August 12-14, there's the Hudson Music Festival.

We have to go - and bring your friends.

We have to support all of these events, because, hopefully, this is our future.

We have to keep these events going - because at some point, all these events are going to get so popular that there will be no question - in anyone's mind - about what to do with the waterfront.

I don't know if Hudson is going to be as popular as P-Town.

I don't know what Hudson is going to be ten or twenty years from now...but I can tell you this....

....if Hudson does get that popular - I'm running the bike shop!

Saland says that he is undecided on the marriage equality vote.

I remember when I first starting looking for a house in Hudson.

I was happy when the Amtrak train was late.

It meant I got to spend a couple of more hours in Hudson, and I sat by the waterfront and waited for the next train.

I still walk by the waterfront in the mornings, and usually, it's just me, my dog, and a few people in their cars.

When I tell people that I moved to Hudson, or that I live here, their reaction is usually, 'Why Hudson?'

Why would anyone want to live in this old little city?

I know I've said this so many times, but Hudson Pride is not just gay/lesbian/whatever pride.

It's about Hudson.

It's about having pride in this little city....the people and the place itself.

That's why we do a boat cruise, and why we have our rally in Promenade Hill park.

When you bring your friends down by the water (a waterfront that is so accessible) on the boat cruise or to the rally, they get it.

They understand the answer to 'Why Hudson?' and why we all choose to live here.

Organizing a Parade....

You want to know what it's like organizing a parade, or an entire weekend of events?

With not a lot of money, a group of volunteers, and working a day job?

Well, this was my day today....

I get up around 6:30, make a pot of coffee, get on-line, and start working by 7am.

I worked until around 10:30, then met with the gal who is doing our tshirts, and got prices.

Then, I had lunch at noon with a Lutheran Deacon who is organizing the clergy in the area. He asked me, 'what can we do?'.

I said, 'well, you can march, and then bring the message out to all of your parishioners. You know, have a get-together. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Even if you held an adult discussion group one night, or you all watched the prom episode of 'Glee' - just get people out of the house.'

I explained to him what we are planning on doing on Family Pride Day. The goal is for kids to have fun, with their families, in a gay-friendly environment. There's nothing explicitly 'GAY' about Family Pride Day....

I mean, the carnival prize might be a rainbow flag. Or, you'll be able to buy a 'I love my two mommies' or 'I love my two daddies' tshirt.

But, that's it.

The point of Family Pride Day is to make being gay, or gay-ish, not a big deal.

No big whoop.

There are going to be SO MANY things happening that day, and so many activities for kids! For instance, ETSY is going to have a big arts/crafts tent!

It's going to be amazing!!

My walk from one meeting to home, is filled with conversations with people on the street, more organizing.

And, updating people on the committee. Is so-and-so's logo on the map? Can we get another sponsor on the banner?

Today, I met with Helsinki. I talked to B&B owners. I ordered a bullhorn, balloon pumps, and purple balloons. You see, we got balloons, with our logo, but, the logo balloons come in every color other than purple, so we needed purple.

Tonight, I'm running the numbers, and making sure that the number of boat tickets sold equals the amount of money in the bank.

It does. Why? Because I do it.

This year, there's an alcohol tent at the Rally. Now, do I know how to run an alcohol tent? No. So, I went to City Hall, got a copy of the alcohol code, then scanned it and sent it to the vendor.

Done.....well, for now, done.

I made an announcement later that day to the Common Council about Hudson Pride and invited them all to march.

Tomorrow morning, I have to run to Staples to copy press packets, Aldi to buy sidewalk chalk for Family Pride, and donuts for the meeting.

(And go to the gym. Maybe I'll go to the gym BEFORE I buy the donuts. Does it even matter? It's a wash.)

And I'll bake cookies.

Two hours of meeting at noon then I have to pick up a generator, that someone is donating for the float-building warehouse, because there's no electricity there.

Tomorrow evening, I'll walk up and down Warren Street, to make sure that everyone who donated money has a Sponsor Window laminate.

And every now and then, I look up from my 'To Do' list, and I'm like,

'Oh. Yeah, that's right. All of these little things, I guess they come together.'

Like the Deacon who's organizing the clergy - last year, they watched. This year, they're ready to march. At least we're giving them a place to march - and you know what? You never know....you never know how something like this impacts someone's life.

Organizing a parade is just lots of little things.

None of it is all that glamorous.

But, it is fun.

Which I think is in honor of his favorite shampoo.

If that's not enough, then on Friday, you have to see THIRSTY at Helsinki with Musty and Stephen Bluhm.

Every now and then, I have to call in a few friends and favors... Organizing Hudson Pride, you make a lot of phone calls......and emails, and texts, and smoke signals. We are very happy to have Tom Judson on piano during the FIRST Capital District LGBT Professionals Happy Hour at Club Helsinki. You see, folks, the Hudson Pride Foundation is trying to put Hudson on the map - for the gay/lesbian business community. This is the first step. We were able to have the Pride Center in Albany sponsor their LGBT Professionals Happy Hour in Hudson this month. YAY! We're doing it at Helsinki, people can see the space, and we will explain where we are having our Pride events. Plus, it will give Hudsonians a chance to meet other professionals in the area. Trixie Explains Derivatives

Last night, I was at Rocks in Albany, watching about a dozen drag queens dance and lip sync on a stage, while the crowd went wild.

There was one drag queen, Pandora Boxx from Ru Paul's Drag Race (which is a show I don't watch, so I have no idea...)

There was lots of dance music, and the 'gurls' were doing high kicks into the audience.....and a friend turned to me and said, "I can't really see Trixie doing that..."

There's no way I'm lip-syncing. Forget it.

"Yeah," I said to him, "that's not happening."

I understand that that is what people want from drag queens - high energy, dancing, high kicks, fake singing, tons of makeup - and I'm very happy that there are plenty of drag queens who do that, and provide that level of entertainment.

Not me.

I told my friend, "I would feel much more comfortable explaining the concept of financial derivatives in drag than lip-syncing to Lady Gaga."

This is a blog post I've had in my head for a while, a couple of years now. Since that whole Greece thing happened.

America has this concept that derivatives are bad, and that they caused the last market downturn.

Well, not really.

The economy went down, because, well, it kinda needed to....and a more stringent financial future lies ahead.

Derivatives are not necessarily the CAUSE of bad and evil, they are just another way to trade...how people TRADE, well, that's the issue....

A derivative means that you are not trading the actual THING, or asset - you are trading something else, that's RELATED TO or DERIVED FROM that asset.

For instance - and I'm going to use real estate as an example....why? Because gay people understand real estate....

no, this isn't Hudson, but could be...

Let's say you have two neighbors on Union Street, in two very nice houses.....similar.....

And, they have the same mortgage amounts on their houses......$100,000 each. They both LOVE their house, and they LOVE living in Hudson - as we all do.

BUT - one has a floating rate of interest, which changes every six months, and right now, it's at 3.5%, and the other has a fixed rate of interest - at 5.5%.

They both have 15 years left on their mortgage.

The question is, 'Who will pay more in interest in the next 15 years?'

Oh, it's a trick question.

You don't know.

You can't.

The floating rate adjusts every six months, so who knows where it's going to be years from now.

Now, this is where the FUN starts!!!

The family in House A with with the floating rate of interest - they are optimists! They believe in the US economy!! The US will get out of its current malaise, the economy will boom and interest rates will naturally go up. House A has the floating rate, which they know will go up. They wish they had the fixed rate.

The family in House B, with the fixed rate, they're pessimists....they believe that the US is the next Japan. We are destined for a stagnant economy. The Fed (the US Federal Reserve Bank), in order to help boost lending and borrowing, and potential growth, will lower the Fed Funds Rate, keeping interest rates low....even lower than now. House B has the fixed rate, which they know will go down. They wish they had a better deal and got the floating rate.

They love their individual houses, they are not going to move.....but they both hate their mortgage interest rates.

And they HATE those stupid fees and everything that's involved in refinancing....so, that's not an option. ("Options" I'll save for a later time....I can't give out all the fun at once.)

Trixie steps in with an idea.

Since you both have the same principal left on your mortgages, and you each want the other's mortgage interest rate, why don't you just exchange mortgage payments, not houses! This way, you don't have to move....

Brilliant!

That's what they do.

They both agree that each will pay the other's mortgage payments for the next 15 years. They are not moving, or even changing mortgages.

They will still own and live in their individual houses.

The house that has the fixed rate of interest pays the floating rate over 15 years, and the house that has the floating rate pays the fixed.

Signed, sealed. Done.

This is a derivative deal.

The underlying assets, or houses, are not being exchanged, nor the mortgages themselves - just the mortgage payments.

They are swapping mortgage interest rates. This is known as an 'Interest Rate Swap' - the most common derivative.

With derivatives, there's no stock or house or asset or anything that's being exchanged....just the interest rates....the 'trade' itself is the agreement to pay the other's interest. The 'trade' is 'derived' from some other asset - in this case the houses.

Maybe next time, I'll discuss wheat futures with half-naked cowboys as examples.

Or, I'm sure by now, many of you would rather I just lip-sync'd.

Financial Planning Seminar - Sunday, March 27th.

The Hudson Pride Foundation is hosting a Financial Planning Seminar in Hudson for same-sex couples on Sunday, March 27 at Space 360 from 1-3pm.

I think I'm baking something for that.

Anyway, in my experiences, MOST, if not ALL couples need some financial counseling.

This would be ME, if I was a financial counselor:

- Stop spending money on shit you don't need, like some big house with bedrooms up the wazoo.
- Pay off your debt.
- Buy municipal bonds.

Done.

Anyway, I think that the financial advice they give at this seminar goes into more detail and legal stuff and whatnot.

Pride is going to be from June 17-19, 2011 this year.

There are going to be TWO boat cruises on Friday night, and the parade will be on Saturday at noon, and then a big party, and on Sunday, it's going to be Family Pride on Warren Street.

We will NOT be asking Paula Deen to be the Grand Marshall.

Rainbow Skate Night

We held our first Rainbow Skate night last night.

So, I get there, and like every event, I'm on edge.

What if no one shows? What if there's a problem...blah, blah, blah....

Of course, it was fine.

Everything went smoothly - and the woman who runs Skate Factory is totally amazing - AND used to own my house!

(and reads my blog....)

Small town.

Anyway, there were a couple of dozens teens, and pizza and soda - and I called BINGO numbers! For fabulous prizes! Like, a Necco wafer necklace!

The Columbia Paper came as well, and shot some photos. It was great.

A couple of times, there were a couple of teenage boys, helping each other skate.

Nothing major, just skating arm in arm - and no one gave them a hard time...

Could you imagine? Imagine what a difference it would have made in your life, if at 16, there was a gay skate night that you and your friends could attend, and be totally open, and just laugh, and skate arm in arm with your friend, and not be harrassed?

What a difference that would have made in your life.

How much less agida you would have been through?

Being gay could just be normal, and everyday, and no big whoop, and you wouldn't have to fight or feel second-class and you could concentrate on other aspects of your life.....

We're working towards it.

I tell people, "do-what-you-have-to" is my middle name.

I guess I need to create a name like, "Duwahuhafta" or something like that.

I struggle with being called a 'drag queen', mostly because, well, I don't really care.

It's a means to an end. It gets me from point A to point B - and it does it fairly quickly, with a lot of fun, and sometimes I make a few bucks.

(Sometimes, like this past week, I was in a room of over 90 college students at the Culinary Institute calling BINGO numbers - and they were taking their shirts off for another BINGO card! OMG, it was so much fun! And, I got paid. How ridiculous is that? I'm getting paid to watch cute college boys take their shirts off in front of me!)

If it was just me in my normal clothes, which lately is a sweatshirt and jeans, it wouldn't happen.

A dress and a wig, some bad jokes and chocolate chip cookies. Boom. Done.

You do what you have to.

You don't complain, you don't find excuses, you don't blame your past or someone else.....you just do it.

And then, what happens, is that when you keep doing, and keep trying, sometimes, it works.

You keep throwing, and sometimes, it sticks.

Last year, at this time, I don't remember what I was doing.....I was doing a Red Party at the Red Dot...I'm doing another Red Party on the 12th. You should go. People are going stir crazy with this weather, it's going to be fun.

(I might wear the same dress....because, well, as I said, I don't really care....as long as it fits.....and I get the stains out....)

But, this coming weekend, the Hudson Pride Foundation is doing a Rainbow Skate night for gay teens - under 21s - in Columbia County.

They get in free, and it's (the first that we know of) LGBT-friendly teen event in the county.

You know what? They're coming out in High School now, and that's wonderful!

We want these teens to know that there's a community out there for them. They have support - and it's right here in their backyard.

We'll push the scholarship program. We gave away $1,000 last year, and this year, we're giving away $2,000. $1,000 to last year's recipients and a new $1,000 to this year's scholarship winner.

There is now a gay and lesbian non-profit organization in Columbia County, and we're raising money for high school students that show a commitment to gay/lesbian issues, plus the HPF is organizing the Pride Parade again.

The parade for this June is under way - June 17-19, 2011.

TWO boat cruises on Friday night, a parade on Saturday at noon, a rally right after and a BIG party all night. The official announcement is on its way.

On Sunday, which will be Father's Day, we are having "Family Pride" on Warren Street - bouncy-castles, and stuff like that for kids, and their gay or gay-friendly families.

I tell people, there are only two problems with living in Hudson.....sex and money.

If you can figure those two things out, you're fine.

Hudson is a wonderful place to live, and gives you a fabulous quality of life. There's a country feel, walking distance to bars and restaurants, residents with sophistication and intelligent conversation, and a wonderful art/music and cultural scene.

It's just the sex and money part. There's not a lot of either floating around - but thanks to the internet, most of us get BOTH from there.

You may not think about this with the Federalist and Victorian houses, but Hudson is an Internet City - it's where a large chunk of income comes from.

That, and gravel pits.

From what I understand, many stores rely on web sales. I, myself, couldn't work here with out a high speed connection.

And, it looks like we're getting another internet company coming to town - so, we'll become even more internet-dependent.

More business will boost the sex and money quotient in Hudson - and people will be happier.

.....until they find something else to complain about....like the snow.....

Municipal Bonds and Eye Make-Up

I 'unfriended' this kid on facebook yesterday.

He was totally annoying.

Kid, like 22 years old.

Usually, the annoying people, I just hide their posts, and it's fine. They never have to know that I don't care about their lives.

But, this kid wouldn't stop. He was very in-my-face. He wanted to 'chat' with me, and a little chat window would come up with something nasty.

Like -

"Your show wasn't that great, and it was too expensive."

Or,

"You should wear eye make up. You look like a boy in a dress."

(That's the idea.)

Unfriend. Done.

Leave me alone, kid, ya bother me!

I don't understand the eye make up, thing. There's a set defined rules and definitions of what a drag queen should look like?

....or, what ANY of us should look like for that matter?

You know what kind of eye make-up I'll wear? Whatever the fuck kind I want to wear. That kind.

So, I'm there sitting with some of the board members from the Hudson Pride Foundation, and I was saying,

"Ya know, if we have any money leftover, we should really have a plan to invest it. I'm thinking something nice, safe, and secure....something like triple-tax-free MUNICIPAL BONDS."

"Triple-tax-fee" is my favorite 'three-words-together'.

More than "I-love-you."

With "triple-tax-free", you know what you're getting; with "I-love-you", it's hit or miss.

Anyway, I mentioned the municipal bonds, and the board members looked at me and said,

"Trix, did you ever think about eye makeup? Maybe a little eye make-up, silly drag queen. We are going to talk to a financial adviser about stuff like that, but you really should think about mascara. Thanks for your input, Trix... We'll definitely think about it...."

We met with the financial adviser, and asked her about safe investments for the scholarship fund.

What did she recommend?

Municipal bonds.

I'm a silly drag queen, with no eye makeup.....and twenty years of experience on Wall Street....

BINGO CANCELED

Hi Hudson,

So, BINGO is canceled.

It was fun while it lasted. It seems that someone called in that 'pm' was running a "gambling den", and the Liquor Authority came and questioned it all.

We did not charge for cards. There was no cash prize.

We played for cookies that I baked, and local gift certificates or coffee, or a bottle of wine or olive oil.

It seems that you cannot have a 'game of chance', where liquor is sold. Trivia night is fine, BINGO isn't.

Whatever.

Playing BINGO for cookies, we really never even thought that there was going to be an issue.

I'll think of another game that everyone can play, that will be just as enjoyable.

It is a bummer, though.

It reminded me of something that happened about two years ago - true story.

I ran for Fourth Ward Alderman.....as replacement for the person who resigned.

I didn't win.

The Common Council voted. It was four votes to five, and the line ran the division of Hudson, itself. They would rather have someone who lived here their whole life.

Fine.

I sat there, and listened to the votes against me. That night was also a bummer.

But....in City Hall that night, were my friends and neighbors, my "girlfriends" (biological girls and otherwise) were there to support me - the "Book Heiress" sat next to me, holding my hand....

I realized that night, that within just a few years, I had a great group of supportive friends - and knowing that, well, that part is kinda wonderful.

Today is a day off, and I'm cleaning the attic.

....ugh....

I have boxes and bags filled with crepe paper, balloons, gay pride flags, t-shirts, buttons.....

And I'm thinking.....wow....these past few years.....it's been totally amazing.

The Hudson Pride Foundation is doing the FIRST ever event for gay and lesbian teens in the county!!

Rainbow Skate Night!

The first 30 under 21-year-olds to sign up are free. After, it's $5/person.

It's a private party, and there will be adult chaperons.

Remember that art auction we did in October? Well, this is where some of that money is going. We are also using this Skate Night to help promote our scholarship for next year.

Homer in some stuff I just happen to have around the house...

Hey Hudson -

Well, I'm back in Hudson full-time, at least for a while, and I'm booking events left and right. Yesterday alone, I booked two.

I'm doing a BINGO night in Poughkeepsie on the 19th, and then it looks like Hedda Lettuce is coming up for a show at Stageworks on Saturday, Feb. 5th, and I'm going to be doing something with that.

Plus, Gio and I are doing another party at the Red Dot, the RED PARTY, on Feb. 12th. All the info is on the sidebar of this blog.

It's kinda amazing I'm still working with GIO after three years, considering....

Yesterday, true story, we were talking about the Red Party....

I take that back. HE'S talking....a mile a minute - non-stop. Even if I TRY to say something, he doesn't stop talking.

I've had "conversations" with GIO, when I'm talking, and he just talks right over what I'm saying. He doesn't even acknowledge that I'm speaking. It's as if someone pushed him down and hill, and he just can't stop.

....I'll push him down a hill...

He's running down the hill, mouth going a mile a minute, arms flailing, total stream of consciousness.

A stream of consciousness like a William Faulkner novel, but set in an Italian family from Queens.

This is a photo me, waiting for GIO to stop talking.

Now, the best, and only good part of this - which I've used for my own entertainment and amusement - is that during his verbal diarrhea/monologue, you can get any information out of him that you want.

He doesn't keep track of what he's saying. He can't - even the fastest computers could not log all that data so quickly.

...and the "Safe Search" is OFF.

Every now and then, I insert a little question, and see what response I get, like;

'What was the biggest dick you had?'

Then, I just sit back and take notes.

He said to me the other day,

"Trixie, when I'm dead, THEN you can have a moment of silence."

I said, "No Gio, when you're dead, then we'll FINALLY have a moment of silence!"

Yesterday, true story......

We were talking about someone else, and no matter the topic, he brings it back to himself,

GIO: ".....and that used to happen to ME! You would never believe how stupid I was!"

TRIX: "Actually, I do believe it."

So, yeah. It's been three years of Trixie's Whorehouse, but it seems like thirty.

The Hudson Pride Foundation has money in the bank, a board of directors, and non-profit status.

We are READY!

Next year's Pride is going to be OFF. THE. HOOK.

DJ Tedd Patterson has already agreed to perform. His partner (and fellow Hudsonian Quaker), lead the silent moment at the Rally last Pride.

Now, that I have more connections up and down the valley....when Trixie calls, they'll answer the phone.

Cabaret Show

So, I did my first cabaret show last night with Tom Judson in White Plains.

And I'm thinking to myself, 'WHY am I in a cabaret show?'

I mean, I don't sing....I don't dance....nor, do I want to...

But yet, I booked five shows.

I think I get more enjoyment out of the concept of a cabaret show, then the reality of having to change my panty hose and wig in two minutes.

Not fun.

It's one of those things that you put in your book of life experiences....

"Yeah, there was that time I did a cabaret show with a retired porn star....I didn't sing or dance or really do anything...I still can't believe I actually did it."

Anyway, there's no such thing as bad publicity......as long as they spell your domain name right.

I think that the publicity from the cabaret show may boost cookie sales, now that I have a double oven.

Nothin' says lovin' than a cookie from Trixie's Oven.

It took some work and construction, but now, I have THREE ovens!

So, the Columbia County Commission on the Arts is doing ARTSWALK and the Hudson Pride Foundation figured that we'd participate.

Here's the deal...

We're already planning NEXT year's parade.....and we need to start raising money now!

I came up with the ideas of prostitution and gambling.....long time Hudson traditions!

I was voted down.

A lot has happened....

You know, leave it to the lesbians. Now, the Hudson Pride Foundation is an official non-profit.

I think, technically, there's like five years of something, and you're considered a non-profit.

Whatever. (And a year until I can start doing BINGO for REAL MONEY!)

But, we can start accepting donations as a non-profit.

I think we're the first official gay/lesbian/bi-trans-whatever organization in Columbia County.

I know, right, can you believe it?

HPF Scholarship Awards Ceremony

Hi folks,

So, I know I haven't been blogging much, but there's really no time.

Even though Pride is over, there are still TONS of things to do....

For instance, we're giving away the scholarship money that we raised with the TV raffle on this Saturday afternoon. The newly-forming Hudson Pride Foundation will give away its first scholarship at American Glory this Saturday at 2pm.

You should go. It's free and there's going to be food. We're giving the money to Charlie Ferrusi and Timothy Howard, the Grand Marshals at the past Hudson Pride.

This is what happened:

We raised THOUSANDS of dollars in sponsorship money this past pride.

(Trix is all about positive cash flow....always....plus, I was keeping the books, so you know that there was no funny business!)

Anyway, there was a flat-screen TV raffle during Pride (the TV donated by SHARP electronics, thanks to MH!) and we raised $1,000. That money is going to be split with Charlie and Timmy, and it will probably buy them a book or two.

There's a little bit of money leftover and we are going to use that for fees to set up a non-profit company, the Hudson Pride Foundation.

The goals of the Hudson Pride Foundation are to raise $4,000 in scholarship money every year and donate it ($1,000 per school year) to an outstanding Columbia County High School senior who demonstrates a commitment to gay/lesbian issues and helps advance g/l equal rights - AND - the Hudson Pride Foundation will organize events such as Hudson Pride throughout the year.

That's what's keeping me busy.

(It's a far cry from writing stories about the trials and tribulations of living North of Warren -or NoWa - and how interior design 'fascism' was invading Hudson.)

The Hudson Pride Foundation is definitely doing something at ARTSWALK this year, and probably another event or two in the winter time before the next Pride parade in June.

The Hudson Pride Foundation may very well be the first organized gay/lesbian/whatever organization in Columbia County.

Maybe.

I don't know. Maybe there's a group of potluck lesbians in Philmont that I don't know about, or kayaking trannies in Chatham.

Although, I think I would know about the kayakers....

Oh, and to top this all off, my drag career is booming!! I have to turn down offers, I don't have time.

Which, I think is ridiculous, considering, I don't sing, I don't dance, I BARELY do any make-up, and my drag personae is nothing more than an (exaggerated) extension of my own personality. (Some say I'm actually more masculine in drag. I believe it.)

People are basically paying me to put on a dress and a wig and tell stupid jokes.

Fine.

I'll live with it.

So, no time to blog.

Oh well.

Come to the event on Saturday afternoon. It'll be in the news, and what else are you doing?

Jason's Upstairs Bar is having a closing party on January 30th.

ok --- true story ----

The Black Party, this past September, was my 40th birthday party.

It's a typical Trixie's Whorehouse party. Everyone's out dancing, and having fun, and GIO is there, spinning. My friends and neighbors are all there, and people are giving me gifts and wishing me happy birthday. Erika pulls out a cake, the whole bar sings 'Happy Birthday'. It was all very, very sweet.

Then, all of a sudden, there are about five people hovering around me, with their cell phones! Jason is texting everyone!!!

'Tell Trixie to meet me in the back! It's urgent!'

OMG...I think....something stupid is happening.

"Something stupid" usually happens. It's nothing major, just something stupid. Like, someone loses something, or the fire department shows up for a pulled alarm....

....something stupid....

I grab GIO and pull him back with me.

I blame him for everything that goes wrong....whether it's his fault or not.

He takes it well.....the blame, that is.

By the time we get to the back of the bar, I'm a wreck. What could it be NOW?

I walk into the back room, and Jason pulls out a little black box and wishes me 'Happy Birthday'. I wanted to kill him.

It's a necklace, made by his wife, in the shop downstairs. It's simple; a single piece hand-molded jewelry.

I wear it everyday.

It reminds me of the thoughtfulness of Jason and his wife, Shana, and it reminds me of that night, when a bar-full of people sang 'Happy Birthday' to me.

If I'm out of town, I look into the mirror and see it, and it brings me home. It reminds me that you can find an abundance of happiness and love, even in a little town called 'Hudson'.

That's the East Village today. That's who's moving in - a tenant who complains that the ceiling is not painted.

Here's the deal. I go to Albany every week. It's really not that far and the guys are very charming.

Anyway, it's called "Just Wear White". It's Memorial Day, and now, legally, in the City of Hudson, you will be allowed to wear white.

Full-on white.

Frankly, I don't care what we call it, just pay the ten bucks at the door and have fun.

Pride Preview Party

Four years ago, I never went above 59th Street....and I only did drag on Halloween and the Invasion of the Pines.

Now, I'm all over the state of New York, with a wig, a dress, and a bowling ball in the car at all time.

Because, you just never know.

I ordered my own BINGO ball machine with BINGO cards and little plastic tiddly-wink chips.

I mean, I like the magic BINGO ball spinner at pm, the wine bar, but now, I need my own, as my BINGO empire expands.

I'm going to have to keep the BINGO ball spinner in the car now as well. Ready, at all times.

People complain that they can't find a job.

Please.

Why do Gay Pride Parades have to have "THEMES"?

Granted, I know that I throw theme parties in town....like, everyone wear white or red or a toga....whatever...

Someone sent me a link for the Gay Pride in New Hope, PA. New Hope, is, I guess, like an older sister city to Hudson. A small town with a lot of antique stores and homosexuals.

Anyway, New Hope is having a Pride Day and the theme is "It's a Family Affair".

Don't believe me? Here's the link.

Yes, Mr. French was really gay, but, "It's a Family Affair" is a lame theme, if you ask me.

You're going to have your Gay Pride theme based on a 70s television show?

In that case, Hudson's theme will be "Match Game"!

So, now, here it is, late at night, and I can't sleep because I'm thinking of different themes for Hudson Pride.

Hudson Pride's First Meeting

Hi Hudson,

It's all very exciting and moving very quickly. Honestly, I had NO IDEA of the amount of support I would see so fast so soon.

I'm setting up another blog, HudsonPride.com to deal specifically with the issues and logistics of the Pride event.

The Facebook group, 'City of Hudson's First Pride' will be used to update minutes, send out mass emailings, event promotion, and discussion groups. (I understand that not everyone is on facebook, but there are advantages. Facebook does make certain functions easier.)

And this blog, GayHudson.com, I will use for my own personal opinions, as well as fun 'bon mots'.

Anyway, here are the minutes from the last meeting. There will be another meeting this Saturday, May 8th, at noon at the Trixie Chalet, on the back porch, weather permitting. I'll bake something. :) Email me for the address. Trixie@GayHudson.com (My house is easy to pick out on my block.......ask yourself, which house would belong to a drag queen, and that's mine.)

Here is the overall plan for Hudson Pride:

'Hudson Pride' will take place on the weekend of June 19-20. Saturday during the day, the village of Catskill will hold a vendor booth fair by their waterfront. Saturday evening, we are planning an event in Hudson. Sunday, at noon the parade will start at 7th Street Park and continue down Warren Street to Promenade Park. There will be vendor booths in Promenade Park on Sunday from noon-5pm with a rally and performers. A tea dance will take place in Hudson Sunday early evening.

There's more to come, so please stay tuned.

I just came out of the Hudson Pride first meeting, and it went very well! We had about a dozen people show up.

Tomorrow, I'll post what we did and set up a new website.

True story, different topic....and I can't really say it ties into Hudson Pride, but whatever.

I talked to my brother this morning who told me a story, I'd forgotten....

He said to me,

"Do you remember, I was about five years old, in the garage, trying to reach something on the shelf, and I asked you to get it down for me."

I must have been around eleven at the time. I said, "No, I don't remember."

"I asked for your help and you said you weren't going to get it for me."

"Oh," I said.

"But you told me, 'Get that milk crate and turn it upside down. Now, stand on it.' And I reached up and got it down myself. You watched me, and then said, 'God helps those who help themselves,' and walked out. I remember not being mad at you, but rather, happy. It stayed with me all these years."

My brother now runs his own computer software company...so, maybe, it worked.

It's official! I got the permit for the City of Hudson's First Gay Pride Parade. June 20, 2010.

Anyway, I posted it a few days ago as my facebook status - and O.M.G. the responses I've been getting!

It's out of control.

People are coming out of the 18th-century-horsehair woodwork!

I created a facebook group, 'City of Hudson's First Gay Pride'. Anyone can join and I'm going to post minutes of the meetings there. There's also discussion boards, etc.

I'm also going to keep posting information here on GayHudson.com.

It really is wonderful how the word is catching on and people - all ages, straight/gay/in between - are offering their help. Every day, I get another few emails of people offering their time or money or people who just want to be part of it.

Poughkeepsie gays are coming up.....Albany gays are coming down....

Catskill is doing their pride on Saturday, the 19th, so, it will be a weekend of Pride!

I'm having the first organizational meeting this SUNDAY - May 2nd at NOON at Space 360.

It's open to everyone! We want to plan out the weekend's events, marchers, publicity and PARTIES!!

I'll bake something and bring coffee.

Well, of course Gay Pride is going to be organized over brunch!

That's a common error, and I'm willing to overlook it, because it's counter-intuitive.

You would think that the possessive is "it's".

I'm re-reading Strunk and White's The Elements of Style.

I LOVE to eat out.......in many ways....

I probably spend hours doing it every day.

Now, I'm back downstate, at least temporarily, I eat out all the time.

(And believe it or not, money might soon be pushing me BACK up to Hudson! It's an odd story, I'll tell you later, I don't actually believe it. When it happens, I'll believe it..)

Anyway, here's TWO evenings of eating out.

(There's the big Opera House Movable Feast this weekend. I support the Opera House, I'll give them a donation, but I'm not cooking for a bunch of people. My Movable Feast would mean calling up Red Chopstick and having all of my guests walk over there with me to pick it up.)

True story....

Did I ever tell you about my former co-worker Cindy?

She was a trip!

A single gal, living in Manhattan, and she LOVED to cook.

She wanted to meet a guy....so, this is what she did....

Every Sunday, she made chili. She was really good at it. A big pot!

She had beers in the fridge, and she put on the football game. She didn't really watch it, she just left it on.

She would casually mention, when people would ask, what was she doing, she would say,

"Oh, it's Sunday, I cook chili and have the game on."

Before you know it, "Sunday at Cindy's" was the BIG hit. Her place was FILLED with straight guys...some married, some single....guys would bring their friends.

She found a boyfriend - cute, hot, hunky guy.

Put the bait out and they will come!

You want a straight guy? Beer, chili and football!

Done.

(Granted, the boyfriend and her had a major coke problem. She lost everything, including her job, and they had to pick her up off the bathroom floor of the office in a stretcher into the ambulance. )

Those are the people not on facebook.....that's where the world is now.

Blogs are good, because you can say more....but events and happenings are really all posted on facebook. It's just easier.

I'll keep you posted, for instance, there's a gallery show this weekend in Catskill which I'm going to attend...probably in drag...why not?

Here's the description off their website:

A show of photographic images printed on various media including backlit transparencies, metal, and traditional paper. The work of Woodstock photographer, Jonas Caulfield, will focus on the concept of gender identity and sexuality in dress. The subjects and the illuminated images themselves will shine light on the observer and our concept of non-traditional
self-expression in relation to gender roles.

It's going to be a room full of pictures of trannies.

I mean you can serve wine and cheese at these things, and "dress" them up, and everyone can walk around talking about gender identity issues, and trans-formations, and the essence of masculinity and femininity, but, you know...

It's shock value.

I mean, that's why I do it.

One, for shock and marketing purposes, but two, because having a trannie or drag queen or "gender-illusionist" in the room, does create a different 'space'.

It says, 'the normal rules no longer apply here'.

That's why I dress up and GO to these things.

It's one thing to see pictures on a wall. Fine.

It's a 'display', a show.

There's still a separation between the object (the picture) and the audience.

That's why I like doing parties in drag and all the other events in town.

I want the 'audience' to be participants!

I want to create another space, where the 'normal rules' no longer apply and dance with people. Play BINGO with people, and have them meet other people. It's about connection!

Artists can easily separate themselves from 'LIFE' itself. Like a reporter, who reports on everyone else's life, but their own life.....nothing.

For me, life is about participating, not just viewing.

So, that's why I'm going in drag.

Canned Ham in Albany - Sat - April 3rd - 8pm

"Canned Ham" is a one-man show that recounts the adventures of Tom Judson (a.k.a. gay porn star "Gus Mattox") who went into the gay adult film industry at age 43, directly from the cast of the Broadway show "42nd Street" with an established a career as an actor both on and off-Broadway, and as a composer of music for films and television, including "Metropolitan," MTV and even "Sesame Street."

During the show Tom recalls working with Teri Hatcher, Rob Marshall (the director of "Chicago") Charles Busch, Ann Magnuson and many others before making an unexpected splash as porn star "Gus Mattox", still the oldest recipient of the GayVN Performer of the Year Award, the porn industry's Oscars.

Ok - this is what I got....

Saturday, April 3rd, I just booked Tom Judson up in Albany. I shot a video with him in a cheap hotel room last weekend. I'm editing and uploading it today.

Yesterday, afternoon, I helped out the BigGayHudsonValley.com boys at their booth at Jacob Javits center for the gay and lesbian travel expo. Watch for the video and pics from that event on their website.

Then, we had the Green Party at the Red Dot. I was in and out of drag twice yesterday, driving up from New York in between.

One time this summer, I did a "Dating Game" at Truman's in New Paltz. I showed up about a half hour before the event with my outfit in a bag. The organizer, another drag queen, Isis Vermouth, looked at me, shocked, "You know you have to go on soon - how long does it take you to get ready?!?"

"Yeah, I know", I said, "it takes me five minutes."

I don't have time to spend hours on makeup. I throw on a wig and a dress, slap on some lipstick, and I'm out the door.

Trix has to turn the shit out.

Wednesday, April 28th, I'm doing another film night at Space 360. We're going to have the 2005 Manhattan Short Films, which include a series of animated shorts. Food by Chef Danyell and Mariana Vadukul (Indian). $25, includes a glass of wine.

And in June, I'm working with Mary over in Catskill to put together a Catskill and Hudson gay pride event for June 19-20.

I know what you're thinking....

Wow, Trix, you have a lot of events, you must be doing well.

Please, I'm lucky if these events pay for the dresses I have to buy for them.

Trix is a working gal, and recently, this past month, moved back to the NYC area, at least temporarily.

Why?

Well, sex and money.

There's just not a lot of it floating around in Hudson.

If you move up here, you have to bring it with you, that's the lesson. Because, you can't expect to find it here.

I mean, yes, you can find it, and many have, but, its not easy.

In NYC, sex and money are easy.

In Hudson, you have to really work hard for every twenty bucks you make.....and for every blow job you get.

(Which I think is a little ironic, considering Hudson was once ALL about sex and money!)

I find it easier to go down, get some sex and money, and then bring it back to Hudson.

Anyway, I had to stop doing my BINGO Madness nights during the week....I just can't be up here.

I come back up on the weekends, do a party, put up posters, shoot a video, bake some cookies, unpack/laundry/pack and then go bowling Sunday night.

.....because I'm also the president of the gay bowling league in Schenectady.....

Of course, why wouldn't I be?

I do have a real job, too....

Trix is a "back office gal". What does that mean?

We make sure that the numbers add up, that everything is right, and that those "front office boys" don't get out of control.

Companies are realizing that they let these boys get away with too much....so, they're calling in the back office gals to rein them in.

We do the accounting, auditing, "risk control", and we make sure that they don't do any bad deals. (I know, exciting...)

Well, at least we try....with our hair tied back, in our JCPenney skirts.

Two years ago, I started a party in Hudson....now....did I really know what I was doing?

No.

I still don't.

Gio and I, we found a space.

We made fliers....and hung them up...and I put on a dress and a wig, and planned a party.

I kept planning parties, and some parties worked, and some didn't.

You throw shit up against the wall....sometimes, it sticks, sometimes it doesn't.

It takes time before you figure out the right formula.

Sometimes, you make mistakes, and that's when your friends are there, to tell you to keep going.

Every now and then, you come up with another idea....like a BINGO night.

Fine.

I'll put on the dress and a wig again, and bake cookies, and call BINGO numbers, and tell stupid jokes.

How difficult can that be?

It's not.

Next BINGO is this Tuesday!

You just keep going.

Don't think about it too much.

Don't stress out.

Don't listen to the naysayers.

Don't worry that it's not good enough, or that it's not perfect.

1. No 'real' names are to be used.

2. A 'statue of limitations' time must pass.

3. Blog pieces are 'based upon' reality. Which means that there's a SMIDGEN of reality, and the rest I make up - kinda like those TV shows.

4. If it is a 'TRUE STORY', then the "GayHudson.com Code" must preface the piece. The code is: "This is a true story."

Ok - let's begin....

Something weirdo is happening in the world of dating....I'm going to call it the 'virtual boyfriend'.

It might be the same for straight people, but their lives are so far from my daily existence, that I can't really vouch for them. I'm sure they have their own blogs.

I met this guy, months ago, in a bar....in person.

He seemed pleasant enough.

We talked, he seemed very flirty, I gave him my number.

Fine.

I never heard back.

I didn't really think about it too much.

Then, one night, months later, I get a text - out of the blue! I texted back, 'Who is this?'

'John'

....yeah, that's helpful....

Anyway, I thought about it, and I figured it was one or two guys......fine.

I texted back and forth....and the texts got all flirty and fun.

Neat, I thought, this guy is kinda fun, and if it was one of the two guys, I figured, well he's cute enough and it would be worth a date.

At night, he sent me a good night text. Sweet.

In the morning, a good morning text.....and a big text kiss......sweet....I guess...

I was going along with it, having fun.

Then, I get a text the next day....

'I think you might be the ONE.'

WHAT??? I'm the ONE?

Wait....I texted back....'um, we need to go on a date first.'

Red flag number one.

This guy was serious. Yeah, we met and talked at the bar, but.....I'm the ONE?

Please.....he doesn't know me....and he didn't know about TRIXIE!

So, how could I be the ONE?

Or, the TWO?

This guy had no idea.

I realized that it was not about me at all. He didn't know ME, and it didn't matter.

He just wants a boyfriend....so badly....that pretty much, he will project boyfriend-like feelings on anyone.

Anyway, I arrange a date for that weekend.

He tells me that I'm the 'ONE', and he can't get it together to arrange a date...I have to do it.

Red flag number two. Lameness.

I plan a date to go to a movie at the mall. I figure, I could always go shopping at Banana Republic before, this way, it's not a waste of time.

Hey, I'm busy!

We go on the date, and he's dead wood. Totally unemotional. Blah. Not a joke, not a laugh, nothing.

Gone are the kissy-kissy flirty, 'I-want-to-suck-your-dick-and-hold-you-all-night-long" texts.

Yeah, that's over.

He's unable to communicate in person. In text/digital format, he's a wonderful boyfriend....caring, sexy, emotionally available, funny!

In real life, cold and stoic.

During the date, I text my "gal" pal, Trudy, who was waiting, anxiously. Trudy texts, 'maybe he's just shy, give him a chance.'

Fine.

I sit through dinner with him.

He tells me about his life......

Every relationship in his life is miserable!!!! His family, his friends, his roommate!

Me? I was really trying to be perky, fun, lively! (I can do 'perky', if I want....shut up!)

I asked, 'How was your holiday?'

'Oh, my family and I don't get along....and then my friends went out, and they got really drunk, and I didn't want to stay around with them.....'

Depressing.

I ate quickly, got the check, and got out of there.

If he was HALF the guy he was in his texts, it could have been fun.....he was a good VIRTUAL boyfriend, but that's it.

The last text I sent him was 'you need to do less texting and more licking!'

I didn't hear back.

Oh well - at least the movie was good.

I know, I haven't been keeping this blog up-to-date.

Sometimes, I just don't have anything to say.

One of my biggest pet peeve (well, ONE of my many pet peeves, I should say) is people who talk a lot, but say nothing.

Another one of my pet peeves is writing with dangling prepositions. Yeah, I know it's easy to have a dangling preposition, and sometimes, there's no easy answer --- you have to re-write the entire sentence!

Then do it! Don't be lazy. There's no excuse.

Anyway, let's go back to people talking too much. I dated this one guy once, very oral.

Which was GREAT during sex!!!

After the sex, he just keep talking....non-stop....about things that were totally irrelevant!!

The price of gas.

A pregnant co-worker.

The thread count of the sheets.

I keep thinking, "....shut up...can you just shut up? please? "

The things you endure for a good blow job.....really...

Speaking of blow jobs, I was down by the Hudson Waterfront the other day....and there was a new sign! See above.

I don't know who put it there. Someone did. You can go down to the waterfront and read it yourself. There's a story, too.

I think this town needs a new 'walking tour' guide. I think there already is one...but....that won't stop me.

ok --- true story ----

The Black Party, this past September, was my 40th birthday party.

It's a typical Trixie's Whorehouse party. Everyone's out dancing, and having fun, and GIO is there, spinning. My friends and neighbors are all there, and people are giving me gifts and wishing me happy birthday. Erika pulls out a cake, the whole bar sings 'Happy Birthday'. It was all very, very sweet.

Then, all of a sudden, there are about five people hovering around me, with their cell phones! Jason is texting everyone!!!

'Tell Trixie to meet me in the back! It's urgent!'

OMG...I think....something stupid is happening.

"Something stupid" usually happens. It's nothing major, just something stupid. Like, someone loses something, or the fire department shows up for a pulled alarm....

....something stupid....

I grab GIO and pull him back with me.

I blame him for everything that goes wrong....whether it's his fault or not.

He takes it well.....the blame, that is.

By the time we get to the back of the bar, I'm a wreck. What could it be NOW?

I walk into the back room, and Jason pulls out a little black box and wishes me 'Happy Birthday'. I wanted to kill him.

It's a necklace, made by his wife, in the shop downstairs. It's simple; a single piece hand-molded jewelry.

I wear it everyday.

It reminds me of the thoughtfulness of Jason and his wife, Shana, and it reminds me of that night, when a bar-full of people sang 'Happy Birthday' to me.

If I'm out of town, I look into the mirror and see it, and it brings me home. It reminds me that you can find an abundance of happiness and love, even in a little town called 'Hudson'.

A gal can only make so much money on Warren Street.

Sometimes, you need to get out of town, make some cash, and bring it back to little old Hudson.

That's what I've been doing.

My house, it ain't gonna repair itself.

And me? No, I don't do any construction work. Are you serious?

You want me to put up dry wall? Please.

Trix has to make the cash so that someone else, some burly man or lesbian, can do it for me.

Anyway, when I'm in between jobs, or work is slow, and I have nothing else better to do, I plan a night of BINGO at pm, the wine bar.

I enjoy calling BINGO numbers. I try to tell some stupid lewd story, which usually gets misconstrued and comes back to haunt me the next day.

It doesn't really matter. At this point in my life, WHAT could anyone possibly say about me that hasn't been said.

True story...

I'm in the train station in Baltimore....and John Waters is there, SCREAMING into his cell phone.

True story....really...

And he's screaming,

"What did she say about me? I want to know, what did she say?"

And I'm thinking.......

'John, really, after you've made a movie with a singing asshole, does it really matter?'

Scalera Supports Gay Marriage. Saland Doesn't.

Well, Mayor Scalera of the City of Hudson supports gay marriage.

Here's the article.

Someone said to me, "Trixie, you haven't commented, yet."

The reason it's taken me so long to comment is because I just don't care.

I mean, it's very nice that he supports gay marriage, but, that and a token gets you on the subway.

If Scalera was out there like the mayor of New Paltz, or Gavin Newsome, then yes, it'd be a different story.

Scalera's a city mayor and it's a state issue, so he has no vote.

Here's a quote from the article from Saland:

Saland issued this statement to the Register-Star on his vote the following day: “Yesterday’s vote regarding gay marriage was anything but easy. As one who previously supported SONDA (the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act), I dwelled at great length on my decision. I have previously expressed my support of civil unions, which I continue to support.”

You dwelled on this at great length? Really?

How long did it take you? What's there to "dwell" on?

Were you worried about all the homophobic votes you'd lose?

If Scalera said something BEFORE the election...then maybe, MAYBE Saland would have thought, 'maybe there's more support in Columbia County for gay marriage than I thought. Maybe I should vote for gay marriage.'

Maybe. Maybe not.

(Maybe Sclera said something, but I didn't hear anything. He never said anything to me....and I do run a blog called GayHudson.com.)

Anyway, this whole issue of gay marriage annoys me on another level because we still have to look to others to somehow validate our relationships, and our lives.

That's the way the system works, I guess.

It's never easy.
You know I'd be a suffragette, if just to wear the hats.

I think these politicians waited until after the election to vote on gay marriage, this way, they're in for one more term.

Well, Saland is out next term.

I'm calling my Poughkeepsie friends and we're getting him out of there.
